Well over 100 delegates attended the side event on Capacity Building and Transfer of Marine Technology, which was co-organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO and the permanent missions of Belgium and Fiji to the UN. The side event was part of the second Preparatory Committee meeting on the development of a new international legally binding instrument on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ PrepCom) under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), 26 August – 9 September 2016. Multidiciplinary Masters degree programme in Marine Ecosystem Management and Climate Change is offered at Nha Trang University. The programme is of high quality, applying current world knowledge in marine ecosystems mananagement and climate change. This programme is a collaboration involving several well-known universities (University of Tromso and University of Bergen, Norway; University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka) in addition to affiliated universities (Auburn University, USA; Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia and others in Asia Pacific). The OBIS-INDEEP (deep sea) training course and workshop will be held at the IOC Project Office for IODE, Oostende, Belgium between 25-28 October 2016. The aim of this workshop is to connect the deepsea biological community to OBIS, with the aim to establish a deepsea OBIS node and develop a customised deepsea OBIS data portal. This is in response to the call from the OBIS Steering Group meeting (Feb 2015) to liaise with INDEEP and O'Hara et al (2015) to establish a global deep-sea biodiversity data-sharing platform. Funding for participation is available for a limited number of participants. Applications should be received before 21 June 2016. IOI Training Programme on Ocean Governance for the Western Pacific Region (International Ocean Institute China), Tianjin, China - Application deadline: 15 June 2016 
The 4th IOI training programme on Regional Ocean Governance for the Western Pacific Region is scheduled to be held from the 22nd August to 18th September 2016 in Tianjin, China. Applicants should have a background in ocean science research or ocean management and a first degree; a good command of English is essential since the course will be conducted in this language. Scholarships are available for applicants from countries of the Western Pacific seaboard.
